Team Member Spotlight: Hallie Million, Director of Engineering

Hallie Million was one of the first key hires at Overlay in November 2019 and joined the team as a Senior Data Engineer. She brought knowledge and experience from organizations such as Blizzard Entertainment, USAA, and ConocoPhillips, where she built data solutions for enterprise financial transactions.

She was also a part of our award-winning Snowflake Startup Challenge overview video, earning Overlay $250,000 in investment capital from Snowflake in 2021.

Where are you from?‍

De Leon, Texas

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy weightlifting, horseback riding, and spending time with my pets.

What lights your fire when you come to work every day?

We're solving a lot of core issues that have been at the forefront of the financial data industry for years. With the agility of a startup environment, we get to solve those problems with the newest technologies - as a data nerd, it doesn't get much cooler.

What does an average workday look like for you?

Every day is different, which makes it fun! I generally spend time solutioning new features with our developers, attending client meetings, and of course - digging in and coding!

What has been your biggest accomplishment with your team?

Since I started at Overlay, the team has grown almost 6x and has accomplished a lot - we've launched our first product, pivoted to a SaaS model, won the Snowflake Startup Challenge, and so much more. Through those big accomplishments, the team has always had each other's backs and stuck together (even during the losses) - when you're in a startup environment, having that kind of culture is easily the best accomplishment of all.

What’s a little known fact about you?

There's an NPC (non-player character) in World of Warcraft named after me.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Dallas?

Even though I live in Dallas, it's never more than an hour drive to the country - can't beat fresh air and Texas skies!

Favorite travel destination or trip you’ve taken?

Roadtripping through Germany and Austria
